The turning point came in 1996. It was the month of April when the daily newspaper La Repubblica, launched a website entirely devoted to the elections taking place a few months later. It was a sort of experiment that the site of this national newspaper decided to do after studying this long, especially in view of the subsequent launch of its website. It took Zambardino Vittorio, editor of science enthusiast and was a resounding success in its day, reaching the quota of 350,000 people in just twenty days.
After several months of work and a few weeks of campaign advertising, January 14 1997 (day of the twenty first anniversary of the founding of the newspaper), was officially born Repubblica.it, organ of the newspaper directed by Vittorio Zucconi. The site was immediately inspired by the other national newspapers. The innovation was to introduce Repubblica.it content in more that were not present in the journal paper, specially designed for the online version and updated continuously. It was something new and managed to make this site, the leader in online publishing.Faced with this great success, including Il Corriere della Sera decided to have a version of the newspaper on the internet, but the differences with respect to the Republic which caused the initial failure. Indeed, it was decided not to entrust to a special drafting the web version of the newspaper, whose pages were essentially the same as the printed version. This marked the final choice of primacy Repubblica.it web publishing, which was only partially recovered. As with much enthusiasm was August 28 1997 Gazzetta.it, the website of Gazzetta dello Sport: This site is distinct from its origins to the great interactivity with its readers and the many multimedia content. 1997 is thus remembered as the year of the quantitative development of online journalism. According to Online Media Center in Italy that year there were 31 daily newspapers on the web, 7 news agencies, 47 from radio and TV, 25 journals and 45 electronic magazine. The phenomenon thus began therefore to have a certain consistency. was preparing what the late 90's would have been a real boom.
